🥯 Hot Cross Buns Served with Homemade Berry Jam
Ingredients:
For the Hot Cross Buns:
3½ cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup sugar
2¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp salt
¾ cup warm milk
1 egg
¼ cup melted butter
¾ cup raisins or currants
For the Berry Jam:
2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
½ cup sugar
1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions:
In a bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
Add flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, egg, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead for 8-10 minutes, then cover and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
Divide into 12 balls, place on a baking tray, and let rise again for 30 minutes.
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes until golden brown.
For the jam, cook berries, sugar, and lemon juice in a saucepan over low heat until thickened.
Once the buns are cool, pipe icing crosses on top and serve with the homemade berry jam.
